I ran a 5k (almost)!

So I mentioned before how inspired I get by The Biggest Loser....we got to the gym today and it tracks how many visits you have had in the last 30 days and I had 4 more than dustin (which NEVER happens!) I had 18 visits total, so pretty good considering there are some days we are busy and I just have no choice but not to go. Anyways, today I wanted to switch up the workout some, so I got there and spur of the moment decided I was going to run as much as I could and see how fast I could do a 5k (3.1 miles). I honestly was expecting to do a lot of walking, but I'm guessing I probably ran about 75-80% of it. I finished in 38:30 which is just under a 12:30 minute mile pace...so pretty decent for someone who is HORRIBLE at running and never attempted something like this! When I finished I felt like I may black out and my ears were really clogged and I kept getting the chills....but I survived! It's 50 minutes later and Dustin is still amazed cause my face is on fire and still flushed. So my goal is to keep working this into my routine and reduce this time. Also, shout out to grandma today for her 81st b-day!!!!

Good movies and TV!

I've never watched the previous seasons of The Biggest Loser (on Tuesdays on NBC). This season I gave it a try and got HOOKED! I can't believe how inspiring the show is and I like so many of the contestants and am impressed at how hard they work each week to lose the weight. The last few weeks I've been going to the gym much more consistently and pushing my workouts much harder. I see some of these 350 pound people doing stuff that I can't even do...one of them ran 3 miles last week! I don't know if all the seasons are this good, but I'll watch again next year too.

We've been on a lucky streak with our movies lately too and seen some good ones. The BEST movie we've seen in a long time is called Brothers- stars Jake Gylenhaal (spelling?) and Tobey Maguire. If you don't know what it's about, I'd recommend NOT reading the synopsis before watching cause felt like it gave away too much. But it is a serious drama movie and is sad, so gotta be in the right mood. We also watched The Informant, starring Matt Damon, which part of it was filmed here in St. Louis. The movie wasn't awesome, but was decent to watch. We also saw Paranormal Activity, which was one of the scariest movies I've seen in a looooooooooooong time. Couple's Retreat was decent, but not hilarious. Now that the weather has turned so nice, I've lowered our Netflix package to only 1 movie at a time....so we won't be watching near as many movies for a while!

Photography Assignment Week 2

So I actually completed this some time ago, but the weather has been so incredibly awesome that I have fallen behind in posting! So Week 2 was learning about ISO and speed-- my assignment was to set me camera to different speeds and photograph runinng water. I went over to the City Garden since they have a small waterfall and some water fountains. I captured the shot with a fast speed, meaning the shutter is open for a very short period and it gives the effect of freezing the water in time. I then captured it with a slow speed, meaning the shutter is open longer and you can really see the water flowing.

Exposure: 1/1000 sec.
F-Stop: 1/5.7
ISO: 200

Hoppy Easter!

Hope everyone had a great Easter yesterday! The weather here was PERFECT and we had a fun time. Keenan and Liam gathered up their easter eggs and goodies and then we went to Missy's for a BBQ. The urge struck me this year to re-create the bunny cake we had made as kids....so that was how my Saturday night was spent! It looked ok, but could have definitely been better, so I'll just have to keep practicing. The cake was lemon and I mixed up some lemon icing to top it off....it is pretty darn yummy!
