Hi, so as I find super good coupons or deals, I'm going to try to pass them along on here. I visit Clippin with Carie daily for good deals in the St. Louis area-- of course, some are better than others. But it is amazing the money I've saved since using her site!
UPDATE: Carie reported on 12/10 that
Walgreen's has pulled this deal and no longer issuing the jingle cash. Sorry!
Here is a current deal where you can get Hallmark wrapping paper for FREE at walgreens PLUS actually make $1 on the deal.
Buy 2 Hallmark Wrapping Paper $1.99 – B1G1 Free this week
Get $2 RR/Jingle Cash
Use (2) $.50/1 Printable Coupon HEREFinal Price = FREE + $1 Money Maker
You can view Carie's site for an explanation on the Jingle Cash or RR if you are not familiar, but basically it will print a $2 Walgreens coupon to be used on your next visit (usually within 10-14 days). If you are like me and do not visit Walgreens often, then just get something in the store now that you need/want and have them ring that up as a second separate transaction and use your $2 coupon right then and there.

Who's going shopping?!?!
Just a few things I've found for those going out shopping this Black Friday. I personally don't have anything I'm after this year, but will probably still venture out.
1. Wal-mart announced they will price match items in other ads!
“Walmart is kicking off three days of savings, typically reserved only for the Friday After Thanksgiving, on this seasons’ must-have holiday gifts, including the strongest “price match” guarantee in the market. In fact, Walmart is one of the only retailers that will price match competitors’ ads on “Black Friday.” Customers simply bring in competitors’ ads and Walmart will match the price of any identical product right at the register, making Walmart the easiest place to save this holiday season.”
2. Shop-n-Save has a great deal. Buy $100 of gift cards at their store to participating retailers and you'll get a $20 gift certificate for Shop-n-Save. Best Buy and Kohls are retailers listed that I normally shop at, so I'll probably try to buy some this week, knowing that I will shop those stores on Friday or at some point coming up. Now I'm not a fan of shop-n-save, but it is fine for getting frozen foods, soda, canned and boxed items, etc. I'm thinking you can use this on Thursday when they offer $10 off a $50 purchase...so really it will be like getting $50 of groceries for only $20!
3. BFads.net is one of the best sites I've found so far if you know what you want to buy and looking to price compare. For example, let's say you want a Nintendo Wii-- instead of looking through each store's ad, you can search for Wii and it will return all ad entries and prices for the wii!
4. Look online because many stores will have their deals available online (unless you are going after a super spectacular doorbuster item)! If shopping online, always check first to see if your store is available through ebates. Ebates will give you cash back (a certain % unique to each store) for your purchase if you link to the store through them.
If you sign up to ebates, please use this ebates link as I will get referral money!
Good luck and have fun!!

Detergent Review :)
So next up I tried not diluting the mixture in the 5 gallon bucket. I researched some other recipes and none were as diluted as much as mine was, so I think they were just trying to stretch this one a little too far! I took an older towel and rubbed into it Ketchup, Mustard, Toothpaste, and liquid foundation Makeup. My homemade detergent took everything out 100% except the makeup. Next up, repeated the same test with my store detergent and......the same result! The store detergent didn't take the makeup off any better, so I think I've now achieved the same product as what I was buying! Doing more loads of laundry tonight with it, so am crossing my fingers no surprises pop up!

Detergent Review :(
So I tried a load of laundry last night with the detergent I made. I took an old towel and rubbed ketchup and mustard into it as a test. At first glance when it came out of the laundry it looked clean...but upon further examination you could see faintly where the food was. And I'm pretty sure my normal store detergent would have been able to take care of it. So, I've been researching other recipes and user comments and am going to try another test without diluting the soap mixture. So basically I'm just going to try using it straight from the 5 gallon bucket...whereas before I used half mixture from my bucket and half water. I'll report back!

Detergent
I think Dustin seriously thinks I've gone off the deep-end lately, but he's golfing all day today so I'm taking advantage of the free time to do more crazy stuff.
First, one thing that drives me bonkers is dustin will never drink water at home...it's always milk, juice, gatorade, etc. It's at least good it's all healthy stuff rather than soda, but seems to get expensive when he drinks SO much of it over the free water that he could be using! So today I found that Gatorade makes a powder that you mix with water to make your own gatorade which is WAAAAAAAAY cheaper than the premade bottles we always buy. So I mixed some of that up and will see what he thinks of this!

Next, I've read on some other blogs of people making their own laundry detergent and it saves them a ton of money....so I thought why not give that a stab?! Here's the supplies I had to buy--

5 Gallon Bucket- on sale at Lowe's for $1
Fehls Napa bar- $2.29
Arm & Hammer Washing Soda- $3.29
Borax- $2.79
So even if this is total disaster, I haven't wasted much money cause I can still use the bucket, washing soda, and borax for things. Basically I'm just out my $2 bar of soap.
So you start by grating the bar of soap into a pot on low heat and just dissolve it to make soapy water. It dissolved VERY easily, but did take a while to grate!

I then put the bucket in the bath tub (since we never use) and filled it half way with hot water. Then I added 1 cup washing soda and 1/2 cup Borax and stirred until dissolved. I added my soapy mixture and gave it a swish. Then you add more hot water to fill to the top. Stir a little more and cover. My bucket didn't have a lid, so I've just used Saran Wrap.

I'll let it sit overnight and it should thicken. And then I can fill some containers halfway with the mixture and the other half with water and it gels into detergent. I'll end up with 10 gallons total and use 1/4 cup for each load...so this is going to last like all year I swear and theoretically each time I make this only costs less than $3!

Money Saving Ideas/Tips
Don't really know what has spurred this post, but lately I have been doing a lot of investigation into our money and savings and am paranoid we'll end up broke some day! Just to add to my paranoia there was a cover story on Yahoo yesterday that $1 million is no longer enough to have saved for retirement for the coming generations and we need over $3 million....that just seems nearly impossible for me to fathom that we can save that much! Here are my latest startegies for us to save some money, so maybe this will help others too:
1) Use Restaurants.com or local tv/radio stations for half-price gift certificates. We go out to eat A LOT, so by using coupons from these places you can save quite a bit. Restaurants.com sells gift certs for a fraction of the price, but there are stipulations on when you can use it and what for, etc. Anyways, if you enter coupon code ZOO, you get 80% off the sale price (valid through 3/31). I got $160 worth of gift certs tonight for $13.80!!!!!!! And with the nice weather, they are all to places that will be going so we can sit outside and enjoy a nice dinner.
2) I use makeup remover towelettes cause are so convenient and seem to go through them like crazy and they seem rather expensive....considering I could just use some soap and water for a fraction of the price! So I started taking the towels and cutting them all in half, so now they last twice as long!
3) We NEVER use coupons when grocery shopping...really the only thing I'll use a coupon for is for clothing stores or Michael's or Bed Bath Beyond. A friend gave me this website that has direct links to some coupons and deals, so I am going to give it a try and see if I find stuff here to save some money on our usual shopping. The site is www.savingmoneyinmissouri.com
4) Take time out to review things you subscribe to and figure out if you really still use it enough to get the value out of it. For example, we have cell phone plans and netflix. With both of these, I looked at some of the cheaper plans offered and based on what we use, I think we could use the cheaper plans and it really wouldn't even affect us. I think a lot of people probably subscribe to higher levels of service than they really use if you take a close look. The hard part on this is convincing dustin though, even though I have numbers to support it!
5) Another website I need to get in the habit of using is www.groupon.com. They will have a cheap deal for your city and if enough people sign up for it, then you all get the deal! Check it out and see if they have in your area! If you decide to create an account, please use my link cause I get referral money after you make a purchase! http://www.groupon.com/r/uu1462625
